When I arrived at Heathcote for today’s meet & greet, there already waiting was Owen and Lesley
(the Smifs) along with Paul Sargeant, and a little further down, was new member Shane Orr, who I
had met on the previous week’s 4-day Bathurst ride.
After a quick introduction, and discussion around where to go, the Dairy bar at Berry was decided
upon, as it was under cover, and the rainy weather was only just starting to clear.
I drew the short straw, and led the group straight down the old highway, before exiting at Fowlers
Rd, and taking the Avondale back roads, Marshal Mount rd, through the back of Albion Park on
Church St then on through Jamberoo and headed up over Saddleback, and down into Kiama, before
getting back on the Hwy and heading for Berry, but we also took the Broughton Village, Fox Ground
side road, just to keep things interesting.
To our surprise, there was a tour bus parked out the front, but fortunately, they were just finishing
and slowly loading up, so we managed to get our favourite table inside, where we all had a nice
relaxing morning tea, and learnt a little more about new member Shane.
After the break, we headed out toward Shoalhaven heads, then back into Gerringong, for a fuel stop
to replenish Paul’s Honda’s tiny fuel tank. From there we just headed straight back, stopping at
Heathcote to say our goodbyes. The day turned out to be quite pleasant, another good ride, thanks
to all who took part.
