Another great winters day for a ride, even if only a relatively short one – sunny and a bit brisk, bit of an understatement that, as it didn’t get into two figures until we descended Mt. Keira. Just for the record, whilst going through some previous documentation I realised it was more or less exactly two years since we last did this excursion – bit of a coincidence, but a good one.
Getting a bit ahead of myself here – six riders left Heathcote and it could nearly have been a BMWTCNSW run as we had five BMW’s and a lone Harley along – two BMW 1200GS’s (finally on a trip), two BMW F800GT’s, one BMW S1000XR and the sole Harley – the riders being respectively, Keith R., Greg (Shaef), Col (Colonel), Brad, myself and, not the be left out, Rick (Hogley Boy).
It was an easy run to Smith’s Lane Café, Wongawilli, for morning coffee and snacks, then onto the Australian Motorlife Museum where we were given free reign of the place. Feel a bit sorry for those that who couldn’t make it as they genuinely missed a great opportunity to see and participate in an amazing collection of a substantial variety of bygone means of transport and associated motor vehicle necessities/appurtenances.
As a footnote, the Museum included vehicles from the early 1900’s through to the 1960’s. Motorcycles, trucks, Penny Farthing bicycle and others, a 1924 Fire engine complete with brass helmets, a FJ Holden with matching Caravan, typewriters, gramophones, picnic gear, irons, signs galore, advertising material, NRMA and Wayne Gardner dedicated displays.
Again, I wish to thank those that turned up and can only hope they enjoyed themselves as much as I did – thanks guys for the company!
