9th December 2024: Helensburgh

As Gene Autry once sang, “I’m back in the saddle again” after my short layoff.

I was keen to check out my recuperative genes again.

Sparkling-eyed and bushy-tailed, I turned up at Loftus Oval at 7:30, waiting for the throng of keen participants.

I waited and waited for my non-existent companions to accompany me on a ride to Cordeaux Heights.

At 8:05, I accepted the obvious: The clouds had won out. They had convinced the Monday group, “If you ride today, we will get you.”

So what’s the option? Home or Bald Hill? The throbbing call of the magnificent Harleys (in the majority today) took me down the highway to Waterfall, Helensburgh, and Bald Hill. Either too early or a Monday had the coffee shop closed. As I admired the fog drifting in and the stillness of the day, I decided to continue down the Coast Rd, up Bulli Pass, and return on the expressway to the Helensburgh exit and a visit to our sponsor, “Social,” for a healthy breakfast of bacon and eggs. That consumed and with the clouds still threatening, I made a dash for home, arriving at 10:30, still dry.
