29th August 2024: Greenwell Point

This Thursday ride was a bit out of the blue, as Keith Moyle put out a message asking if anybody could fill in for this ride and also the following Saturday ride, as I didn’t have much on, I put my hand up to lead, and it turned out to be a very nice trip with really great weather.

At the servo we had 8 bikes and riders, Dane, Col, Andrew, Craig, Les, Mick and Merran, and me Smoko. The ride was going down the OPH and on to Picton Rd, down Mt. Kembla along the Highway to Fowler Rd, Marshal Mount Rd and into Beanroasted Coffee at Calderwood for our first stop.

Really nice sitting in the sun with the usual banter, after about half an hour it was time to continue, we lost Les with baby sitting duties and Craig who went straight on when we all turned left onto Pearsons Lane after going through Robertson, along with a couple of white unmarked police cars, so now down to 6. We all continued on down through Kangaroo Valley on to Nowra where Andrew left us, and then the 5 of us turned left out to Greenwell Point for fish and chips. The original place looked like it had been closed for a while, so across the road we went to the newer venue that had won Australia’s best fish and chips in 2019 and again in 2023….and it was a great feed, very busy, but with only 5 of us the staff quickly arranged a table, very nice.

I reckon an hour went by, as we all devoured our rather different meals, with much talking as usual, now time to make tracks home, Mick and Merran said they would leave us at Gerringong to catch up with family, so then we were down to only 3 for the rather brisk run back home. Due to the time, Col radioed to say he wouldn’t stop at our usual goodbye destination, so we all just waved to each other, and continued home, I arrived exactly 2 hours from leaving Greenwell Point, non-stop, home at 3:40pm.

It was quite a long ride, but everyone enjoyed it, good company, good food and really good weather for a change, many thanks to all for coming along, and a big thankyou to both my tail end Charlies, Les and Col, well done guys.
