21st September 2024: Western Sydney International Airport

Surprises never cease. My last ride through the south west suburbs had a total of 3 bikes (including me). This time we have 16 bikes and 3 bodies in tintops to visit the Western Sydney International Experience Centre at Luddenham.

This is the third visit by our club to the WSI Experence Centre. Our first was before te runway was graded and the site was just being prepared. Let’s see what progress has been made?

The approach ride took us through the new port at Moorebank and then through Glenfield, Macquarie Fields, Bardia, Edmondson Park, Preston’s to Hoxton Park. I used to work at Glenfield when it was largely pastures and open space. The port at Moorebank is mindblowing. The size and scope of industry out there is something you do need to see.

From Hoxton Park we head west  through Kemps Creek and on to Badgerys Creek and Luddenham. The main entrance to the new airport will eventually be via the M12 under Elizabeth Drive. Again – the extent of the building and progress is amazing. Do yourself a favour. Go out and just view the building works off Elizabeth Drive.

Left on Northern Road (after totally missing Tunnels in his Honda Euro) and then left into the Centre.

We arrived very late for our 10.15 booking. Thanks to Lucky who wnt ahead of us the Centre knew we were on the way. The hour-long presentation was thus cut to about 45 minutes but was excellent. The presenter clearly showed how the airport will expand from 10 million travellers a year when it opens in 2026 to eventually servicing 44 million travellers a year with 4 passenger terminals and 2 runways.

Post visit we have a very, very short ride to Luddenham – where brunch was at Lunden House.

After food and drink to keep us going on this absolutely perfect Spring Saturday we head off for the shorter ride home.

We travelled to Wallacia where they are clearly preparing for much greater traffic loads in the locality as the road is being upgraded. JUST LEAVE GREENDALE RD ALONE!!!!

Along Greendale Rd and Bringelly Rd to Heathcote Rd for farewells on Illawarra Rd.

The ride wasn’t long but the destination was very worthwhile. In answer to the question above – there is impressive progress. The runway is finished. The terminal has a roof on and is at lock-up stage. They really are on track. Speaking of which – the WSI metro will go from the new suburb of Bradfield to St Mary’s. Of course most international guests will want to head straight to St Mary’s, won’t they? It’s a tourism mecca…….not.  What giant intellect thought about that????

Thanks to Slim Jim who took on TEC duties (which was really essential with so many traffic lights) and thanks to all those who provided great company on the day.
