The morning weather was looking fine – a cloudy day but perfect riding conditions and quite mild! Altogether 11 riders headed off – Colonel, Teddy, Paul (first outing for his latest bike), ½ way Dave, Spud, Gorilla, Wills, Pirate, Nathan (Welcome Nathan, he only joined up the day before!), Steve S and myself ready to go.
A quick trip down OPH and back onto the freeway at Bulli, before turning off at Picton Road and heading for Mt Kiera. Heading down Harry Graham Drive was painfully slow as a P plater in a Land Cruiser held us all up and despite me placing myself in his mirror and flashing my headlight, he didn’t pull over.
Back onto the freeway, off at Fowlers Rd and heading for Marshall Mount Rd. Through Calderwood and up Mac Pass. We stopped for mornos at Greenacres (Moonlight) Café in Robertson.
The temp only dropped to 14 so was very pleasant. I was told that the bacon and egg roll lived up to expectations once again, and the coffee was pretty good too. So were the cakes and biscuits. All produce (bread, milk, baking) is from the Moonlight Café farm so its good to be supporting the true locals.
Half way Dave left us after smoko at, you guessed it, the half way point! Back on the bikes, a 1 minute stop just after leaving the café so the ride leader could do up his helmet which was completely undone. Must’ve come undone by itself… around the northern side of Wingecarribee Reservoir and right turn onto Tourist Dr, which comes out on Mac Pass. Back home the same way to Heathcote using the same route except skipping Mt Keira. 11 started, 4 dropped off at various stages and 7 finished at Heathcote where we said our goodbyes. About 260kms and home by 1pm.
Thanks gents! Brett
