Whispers was not feeling too well so Perry agreed to lead this Monday riders to Austi beach cafe Austinmer. Perry on his Honda Shadow, John on his BMW, new teeth Lassi on his BMW and Russell on his historical BMW. This is the day the Lord has made, we will RIDE rejoice and be glad in it.
Headed south down the Princes Highway to Waterfall then on to the Old Princes Highway, at the Darkes Forest turnoff, there was plenty of rubber on the road and I could smell the burnt rubber. Then it was the school zone 40 flashing lights, I have never seen anyone crossing the road to the bush here, and if anyone was, I would not see them as I would be checking my speedometer. Anyway back to 100 kph not far away. Along Maddens plains the yellow flowers were out along the side of the road, and the Gymea Lillys are still giving a show of colour, I only added this part in because my wife Beverley said I should make this report more flowery.
Took the Bulli Pass turnoff, I remember the time I was a pillion on a 1936 BSA Sloper with wooden brakes going down the pass, many Hail Mary’s were said that day. At the bottom of the pass, took the left turn towards Thirroul and to Austi beach café Austinmer. Russell said he was here last Monday, actually the same seat. He filled us in about his recent trip to India, cruising the river with only 16 passengers, mostly westerners, and the food was excellent mostly western. He said he could kiss the ground when he arrived back in Aus.
John told us about the time he worked in the outback and sleeping under the stars. John also enjoyed his Tamworth ride, but some days were very long for a pillion. No medical discussions today, only John’s wife Debbie is thinking of getting a knee replacement. Having talked enough, we decided to return via The Royal National Park, and Lassi said he would lead.
The return ride was good to us, only a one lane at the north end of the Sea Cliffe Bridge, and the Stanwell Park roadworks are continuing. A wonderful ride through the Park to the traffic lights where we said our goodbyes. We are so blessed to have such wonderful rides so close to home. Back home, bike away, change out of riding gear, switch on radio and it was 11AM Remembrance Day.
