I woke early to a very foggy morning for my first run as ride leader. As it approached leaving time, most of the fog had burnt off to a pleasant morning, so I geared up and headed out to our meeting point at the Southbound Ampol service station, Heathcote, wondering who was up for a ride today.
On arrival, I was greeted by Keith (Gorilla), Jim Allison, Beat (Dakar) Fawer and Rick, shortly after we were joined by The Colonel and with a few minutes to go we were joined by Keith Ryan (Shrek).
We headed off down the OPH and back onto the freeway at Bulli, then off at the 2nd Dapto exit (thanks Dakar), going the back way to Macquarie Pass, where we had a reasonable run until halfway up encountering a little traffic, on through Robertson and after a little more giudance from Dakar, down into Kangaroo Valley, where we found the street packed with cars for a Remembrance Day ceremony. Thankfully we found parking out back of the pub, after a few minutes wait “We open at 11 !” … (it was 10.51am) we ordered our beverages and settled in for some friendly discussions and a suggestion or two that maybe I could have “given it a bit more throttle” …
The run back was led by Shrek, who was a lot more familiar with the countryside and took us on a couple of very nice detours of the highway (and gave it a bit more throttle). The last bit of adventure for the day was to be heading up Mt Kembla and re-joining the Hwy at the top of Mt Ousley … well that was the plan … sadly most of the way up, we were stopped by a council barricade… it was closed for a special event … back down the way we came and then onto the Highway again then turning to the OPH, before saying our goodbyes at Helensburgh.
Thanks Guys.
Cheers, Steve
