3 of us were keen to head out on a very nice and relatively cool Saturday morning: Jimmy, Monkey and myself. Some showers were forecasted, but that didn’t stop us.
The first leg was one of the usual ways to Jamberoo for morning coffee. After that I had a route planned which included – surprisingly to me – some roads neither of my seasoned riding buddies had been on:
Rather than riding via Saddleback Mountain or Jerrara, we followed the Jambaroo Rd all the way into Kiama which included a few great corners with very good surface. Then via the Brown St “shortcut” on the Princess Hwy all the way to Berry. Then up Woodhill Mountain (not quite sure what to make of that name – a mountain made of hills of wood ?!?). The traffic light up Woodhill Mountain Rd have been removed and it’s now 2-way again all the way. There’s only the short section of roadworks with a traffic light just at the turnoff to Wattamolla Rd.
At the end of Wattamolla Rd we turned left onto Kangaroo Valley Rd. To call that a “Road” is really a stretch. 30 years ago it was in ok condition, now it’s just a 6km accumulation of pothole patches, tight corners, steep sections and quite a bit of traffic. Not for the fainthearted, but we made it.
Then we turned onto Tourist Rd towards Cambewarra Mountain. We had to wait at the Moss Vale Rd hairpin for a while (due to the ongoing roadworks) which was rewarded with a clear run down Cambewarra Mountain. Rather than going through Bombaderry we turned right towards Cambewarra Village and left down Hockeys Lane through North Nowra and onto Greenwell Point.
Sadly DJ’s Fish & Chips in Greenwell Point has closed and we decided to have a bite at the pub.
On the way home we rode through a couple of showers, but were nice and dry again by the time we got home.
