11th January 2025: Bulli

“Veni, vidi, vici” – The Roman Emperor Ceasar’s famous words:
I came (to the meeting point),
I saw (that no one else was there),
I conquered (the weather/forecast).

As usual, I never decide NOT to ride according to weather forecasts, I always wait for the morning. It was raining at 6am, but by 8am it was just overcast (in Cronulla). So I consulted the radar and decided there’s plenty of clear space between some small wet bits.

There were no other Ulyssians at the meeting place and I left at 9am for a ride through the NP to Bald Hill to then reassess. I happily accepted Gerry Bloemen’s kind invitation for a cup of coffee. The ride over Seacliff bridge along the coast was great with very little traffic. At Thirroul I’ve encountered a light and short shower, but it was already dry again by the time I got to Bulli.

While we’re having a barista-quality coffee and some great conversations, there was another (fairly heavy) shower passing. By the time I was ready to leave it was clear again – it’s all about timing.

I had a clear and great run back through the NP and just caught up in another light shower from Audley to Sutherland, and again it was clear by the time I got to Kirrawee and sunny when I arrived back in Cronulla.

Happy Riding, Dakar
PS: Sorry for the blurry Gerry in the photo, I think my phone couldn’t cope with our deep conversation 🙂
